'Speed' Vintage GWR Jigsaw Puzzle & Box

This vintage wooden jigsaw puzzle is one of the classic series of puzzles published by GWR (Great Western Railway) and made by Chad Valley. The puzzle dates from the late 1920's and depicts an express train in GWR colours.

Intriguingly, the puzzle is not rectangular and is shaped like the picture - the white background in the picture above is the board, not part of the puzzle!

This puzzle is one of the rarer jigsaws in the series and is now becoming very hard to find.

The jigsaw puzzle we are selling, pictured on this page, is generally in good condition - the colours are still bright and fresh - but it does have a couple of pieces that have broken in half (although still match up) and unfortunately there are about 6 pieces missing (see picture). However, this doesn't really spoil the enjoyment of doing this rare puzzle, and has been reflected in the price.

The puzzle comes complete with its original box.

150 pieces (approx.) Size: 45cm (18") x 20cm (10")

General Condition:

Pieces: Very Good

Box: Average

The puzzle pieces are all in very good condition, with the exception of a few that have broken at their thinnest point, but most of the pieces are in very good condition. There are about 6 pieces missing. The box is in average-good condition for its age but does have some storage wear to the lid, corners and edges as you would expect fopr a piece of cardboard that is nearly 100 years old!
