Bar Billiards is a classic pub game which has been popular throughout England for nearly a century. A derivation of Bagatelle, it is believed to have been brought to England from Europe and became popular in the UK in the 1930's.
This antique Bar Billiards table is an early table made by William Jelkes & Son of London, a company which is generally acknowledged to have manufactured the best quality tables. The table is believed to date from around 1935. It is a full size (6ft) competition table with a thick slate bed and oak finish.
As far as we know, this Bar Billiards has been in private hands for most of its life and therefore has much less wear than usual. The timer has been removed at some stage and a matching wood blanking plate has been fitted to the timer slot (see picture below). Should the buyer want to use the table in a pub or club, a timer can be refitted at extra cost.
The table was professionally restored 16 years ago and has been used very little since. It is in very good condition throughout. It comes complete with wooden scoreboard, a set of Bar Billiards balls, wooden skittles (both antique 'dolly' type and the more familiar 'mushroom' type), and 2 brand new cues.
Antique Bar Billiards tables of this quality, particularly Jelkes tables, are now very hard hard to find. Jelks tables were hand made and were finished to a far higher standard than the modern, mass-produced versions. In addition to being more aesthetically pleasing, their high quality of construction and materials ensures that will last for several lifetimes!

The table has a few superficial marks to the wood, commensurate with its age and light use, but for a table nearly 100 years old it is in excellent condition. The playing surface is in very good condition - again there are a couple of minor marks but they are in the baulk area are not large or highly visible. (Pictures available). The slate has some chipping to the underside but is structirallt msound and is not cracked. As noted above, the playing surface is in perfect condition. The balls, skittles and cues are all in excellent condition.
With these tables now commanding prices up to £2,000, this table is an exceptional buy.
